Legacy Row for Dementia Canterbury
Righto folks—here’s Merv, the old guy who’s decided to take on a world record and raise a few bucks for Dementia Canterbury while I’m at it.
I’m aiming for 20.4 seconds over 100 metres on the indoor rower. That’s not even one full pull of the handle if you blink too slow. Current record’s 20.5, so I’m chasing tenths.
Why? Because dementia affects 1 in 16 Kiwis, and I reckon that’s worth rowing for. I’ve coached swimmers for 47 years, but this time it’s me on the machine.
Today’s update: 3 gym sessions this week, a couple of emails sent to rowing clubs, and one cold coffee sacrificed to the campaign gods. FitForLife Gym’s backing me, and Dementia Canterbury’s sending a field officer to Ashburton soon. Good people.
If you’re part of a rowing club in Canterbury, Timaru, Ashburton, or Christchurch—consider a member donation. Every dollar helps.
That’s it for now and it's dark outside @ 9.35. Heater’s finally on, curtains are still wide open, and I’ve just remembered I need to eat something. More updates soon.
